The delegates of Labour Law Reform Coalition, together with members of parliament YB Charles Santiago and YB R. Sivarasah, met the Minister of Human Resources YB M. Saravanan on 29 November 2021 pertaining to Employment Act amendments, which tabled in the parliament for the first reading in the same month.
We urged the government to implement 40 hour of work per week, ensuring the amendments cover all employees, removing the contractor for labour provision, increasing the maternity leave and allowance to 98 days in accordance to ILO Convention 183.
Besides, we called on the government to strengthen the anti-sexual harassment provision by requiring employers to produce a written code, as well as remove the exemption of benefits for domestic employees.
