Press Statement by Labour Law Reform Coalition on 1 Feb 2021 in Shah Alam
In response to the government announcement that all employers are required to provide swab tests for all migrant workers, Labour Law Reform Coalition calls on the government to carry out mass testing for all workers, whether they are local or migrant workers.
It is important to note that social distancing is difficult at labour-intensive manufacturing facilities or production site due to space constraints. Both local and migrant workers are exposed to the risk of contracting Covid-19.
Restricting swab test to migrant workers only does not make sense. Early detection of Covid-19 can better protect the health of all workers.
If cost factor is a concern, we urge the government, employers and social security organisation (SOCSO) to share the cost of swab tests for workers.
