The National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) Peninsular Malaysia was established in 1958 by Pathrose Cruz Gomez. Long working hours and harsh working conditions were main reasons for Malayan bank workers to converge and form the union.
The objective of NUBE is to improve the working conditions of more than 20,000 bank clerical and related employees in banking and financial institutions through collective bargaining. Bank officers and executives are covered by the other unions.
NUBE represents members in trade disputes and defends workers’ rights at the workplace. From time to time, NUBE conducted fundamental human rights training to members and their families.
NUBE is one of two industrial unions that negotiate industry-wide collective agreements with employer associations. NUBE’s counterpart is Malayan Commercial Banks’ Association (MCBA), which consists of local and foreign banks such as CIMB, Hong Leong Bank, RHB, Alliance Bank, Affin Bank, Citi Bank and others.
NUBE is led by Michael Tan Eng Hong (President) and J. Solomon (General Secretary).
